I mentioned this PBS program, Digital Nation: Life on the Virtual Frontier, to some of you after our last class, so check it out when you get a chance, especially the third chapter of the presentation.  It’s an interesting look at how we all live our lives.

Here’s a little test for you:  At some point this weekend, try and do just one thing…..and, see how long you can do it for.

What was interesting is that as I watched this PBS program, I realized I had ESPN on the TV, I was doing e-mail, g-chatting with someone, and scanning Facebook.  I then shut them all down and focused on the PBS documentary.  I deliberately decided not to multi-task, but it wasn’t easy.  So, try it!

In case you missed it (and it’s  kind of hard to….) Steve Jobs and Apple unveiled the IPad today.  The pricing structure and plans by NYT to be a content partner definitely factor into our earlier discussion about the business plans of the New York Times.

Also out there are reports that Newsday paywall has resulted in only 35 subscriptions in three months.

Hi multimediaites –

One of the major discussions going on within Web journalism circles (and journalism circles overall) is how news organizations can make money off of their Web operations.  There are many innovative experiments going on and there are lots of organizations also trying to figure out ways to apply the newspaper subscriber model to the Web.  This week, the New York Times announced its plans to “charge for frequent access to its web site.”

The plan is not scheduled to start until next year and NYT officials took part in an online discussion today on the proposal.  Please read the article and the discussion and weigh in with your comments in the comments section before next class.
