Hi and welcome to your class blog! This will be the place where we communicate between classes. You’ll also find the Syllabus, Day-to-Day Schedule and other worthy nuggets here…..while you’re here, go ahead and hit the “Follow Blog Via Email” link to the right……

Your first assignment is to watch tonight’s State of the Union and follow The Fix blog on The Washington Post’s Web site and then weigh in with your thoughts on the experience on the comments section of this blog post.

Tuesday’s Class

Multimediaites –

I hope you are all safe, warm and well-fed. I realize that many of you are probably operating under some strained situations after the freak snowstorm and the subsequent power outages. UMass has opened the university on Tuesday but I realize some of you will not make it to class and that is understandable.

I will hold class on Tuesday….if you can make it, the room will be open for editing your Weather projects. If you need to go out and shoot, that is possible as well. Also, I will extend the deadline for your projects to the start of class on Thursday.

Weather Packages (REVISED)

Just to clarify, the Deadline for the Weather Package is 5 p.m. on Nov. 2. You will have class time to edit next class….

VIDEO TEAM ASSIGNMENT #3: Weather Feature. Teams will produce a short video with an accompanying blog entry. The video should be 2-4 minutes in length and the blog entry should be 500-700 words. Get 2-3 good interviews. DEADLINE: Post your blog entry and the video to your blog by 5 p.m. on Nov. 2.

It looks like a good number of people missed the Blog Assignment that was due Oct. 11:

BLOG ASSIGNMENT #4: Read this tutorial from John R. Henderson, a librarian at Ithaca College, on how to recognize reliable Web sites vs. junk. After reading the tutorial, please do a 500-1,000 word blog entry analyzing the Peak Oil section of the tutorial. Analyze each site and indicate whether it is an authoritative site or not. Offer support for each conclusion. DEADLINE: Post to each of your blogs by 5 p.m. on Oct. 11.

If you missed seeing this on the Day-to-Day schedule, I will give you until 5 p.m. Friday to post this assignment to your blog. After that, I start grading down.
